The
new Elder Scrolls game for Xbox 360 and PC, Oblivion, is a fantastic
example of great storytelling in the video game medium. This game,
referred to by fans as Elders Oblivion, is a truly epic fantasy tale
worthy of comparison to Anne McCaffrey and Tolkien. Spoilers follow
this introduction to the story of the Elder Scroll 4, Elders Oblivion
video game:
The Elders Oblivion game opens in a prison cell. Your character, our
fearless hero, is nothing but a no good convict – a flawed hero is
key to all great sagas. Circumstance and fate have placed our hero in
the one cell that will change his (or her) life forever when disaster
strikes. The Emperor himself arrives! Uriel Septim VII, voiced by the
amazingly talented Patrick Stewart at the top of his game, is ushered
towards you… because your cell happens to be along the imperial
evacuation route. A great voice cast is one of the things that puts
Elders Oblivion a step above the rest.
Things do not go well for our poor Emperor in Elders Oblivion, as the
Daedric cult the Mythic Dawns succeeds in their assassination attempt.
This throws the entire planet into chaos as the gates of Oblivion are
thrown wide allowing the Daedra to invade and swarm the landscape of
your beloved Tamriel leaving destruction in their wake.
This is roughly the objective as first laid out in Elders Oblivion.
Open gaming means you are not forced to follow the plot, nor follow it
in any given order. However, in Elders Oblivion, the story is so great
you should at least take on the challenge handed you by the Emperor.
The first goal in Elders Oblivion is to find the heir apparent to the
throne of Cyrodiil and close the Oblivion gates. It’s an engaging
tale, and participating will suck you into the deep mythology of the
Elders Oblivion video game.
