The
newest incarnation of The Elder Scrolls series from Bethesda
Softworks, sometimes referred to in shorthand as TES, is entitled the
Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion. This one is more of what you’ve come to
expect: great mythology of play yet open to new gamers.
The universe in which Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion is set is the same as
in the previous chapters of the game, but all different at the same
time. This version’s attention to detail, both in visuals and in
story, along with the grand and complex setting, make this one sure to
capture every gamer’s attention.
Many such gamers have often wondered: what is with the title anyways?
Unlike previous chapters (Arena, Daggerfall, and Morrowind) Elder
Scroll 4 Oblivion actually addresses this question: what ARE the Elder
Scrolls, anyways? Previously, the games had told of them being scrolls
of history and prophecy. Only powerful magicians are even capable of
reading them, and even then interpretations remain subjective. Except
in rare cases, where the right person at the right moment can read
them clearly, a message from above.
In Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion, if you make it to the final Thieves Guild
quest, appropriately entitled “The Ultimate Heist,” the player is
challenged with stealing an actual Elder Scroll from the Palace!
However, the game programmers are smart enough not to spill all their
beans. In this current game, Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion, you are not
allowed to make sense of the scroll. We trust that future sequels will
drop more clues.
One in a successful, long-running games series like Elder Scrolls, 4
Oblivion is great at being accessible to the casual gamer and also
gives the dedicated player an extensive history and mythology to paint
a vast yet detailed universe of play. Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion builds
on the mythology without giving too much away, to leave the player
room to interpret as well as retain curiosity for future editions.
